SSBC History

Sistahs Surviving Breast Cancer (SSBC) was organized in 2000 by a group of breast cancer survivors at Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church as a faith based community support group under the leadership of Jacqueline Y. “JB” Brown.

Our Mission

To support and educate our community and help reduce the disparities in breast cancer deaths, treatment and recovery, and to dispel the myths in minority communities through education by:

  • Increasing breast health information
  • Increasing early detection awareness
  • Increasing knowledge of prevention methods available

Services

SSBC provides peer-to-peer support, breast cancer and cervical cancer awareness and education throughout the year by trained cancer survivor volunteers. In addition, through our community partnership with Tampa Bay Community Cancer Network (TBCCN) — Moffitt Cancer Center, we also provide colon cancer and lung cancer awareness and education.

MEETINGS ARE HELD ON THE 2ND TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH AT 6:00 P.M.
